The Story Behind Malie

Malie was founded in 2004 by Dana Roberts and her husband Shaun, out of their love for Kaua'i — the "Garden Island" of Hawaii. Over 20 years later, Dana is still hands-on with every part of the brand, from ingredient research to customer care.

You'll notice a golden lotus on Malie's packaging. It's intentional: the lotus rises fresh and untouched from the water each morning, and Malie sees their products the same way — a small daily ritual that helps you rise, too.

Why We Fell in Love with the Ingredients

Malie's not-so-secret secret is Hawaiian hydrosols — aromatic floral waters extracted through hydro-distillation from tropical floras like plumeria, pikake, maile, mango nectar, tiare, and coconut. It's a slower, more deliberate process, and it's the foundation of nearly everything they make.

From there, they build with ingredients that are as functional as they are fragrant:

• Kukui seed oil — rich in vitamins A and E and omega 3, 6, and 9, used to help skin retain moisture and support a healthy-looking glow.

• Mango butter — an antioxidant-rich emollient that helps soften dry skin.

• Macadamia oil — high in monounsaturated fatty acids, often used to support soft, resilient-looking skin.

• Awapuhi ginger root — a tropical root used for its calming, circulation-supporting properties.

A Company That Gives Back

What kept us in, though, was Malie's #GivingBackIsBeautiful campaign. Since 2017, they've donated more than $100,000 in campaign profits to causes across Hawaii — environmental preservation, poverty relief, and support for Hawaii's children.

That's shown up in real ways: funding wildfire recovery through Habitat for Humanity Maui after the 2023 Lahaina fires, supporting native forest restoration through the Kōke'e Resource Conservation Program on Kaua'i, and partnering with Limahuli Garden & Preserve to protect endangered native species.
